There are many different reasons why people work at St Andrew's Catholic College; some employees do it for the physical benefits like livelihood and money. Livelihood is when workers provide themselves and their families with the basic essentials of life: food, clothing and shelter. Once this is met other needs become more important. Other employees work for mental benefits such as human relationships, being part of a team and having the feeling of companionship. Other benefits why people may work at St Andrew's include: personal development, job satisfaction, service, security, success and happiness. To motivate the staff of St Andrew’s Catholic College different types of job design can be used, such as job enrichment and team building. Job enrichment assigns the employee with greater responsibility, power to make decisions, greater variety of tasks and feedback on their performance. This therefore gives the employee a sense of importance, which can influence their motivation towards their job. Team building is used to recognize the interdependence that exists between the individual, other employees and the goals and objectives. People that work within a team enables the employee to gain a sense of ownership and continual responsibility for their work which can influence their motivation within the work place. The leaders of the college could one day a week put the employees into small groups and could do activities such as quizzes. By doing this it would encourage team work within the employees which will influence the motivation within the school.
